Obed Kfir, child

Child

Obed Kfir

Child, about 20 years old. This is the second life this soul has lived in Neshiyah.

Obed Kfir is a thirteen-year-old with dirt under their nails and the restless legs of someone who has never finished a sentence sitting down. At work in the fields, they stoop and straighten like a pump handle, eyes always drifting to the treeline where the fog hangs. Their habit is counting: steps between furrows, fence posts, breaths. They want to walk into the white wall once, just to see if it feels different from the other side. The town sees them as a quiet, reliable kid who sometimes talks to themselves at dawn, repeating a phrase the elders shrug off as nonsense. But Obed keeps it close, like a smooth stone in a pocket.

Temperament

Curious when something is in front of them; trusting, within reason; even-tempered; friendly enough; never still.

What people say

Obed Kfir believes what everyone believes: the fog is the edge of the world, and the fields need working whether it is true or not.

The dream

Since the morning they were born they have carried a sentence in a voice like their own: “the fog does not measure the same twice.”

What the record shows

  • day 32 A son, Obed Kfir, was born to Liesl Kfir.
