Shira Navon, child

Child

Shira Navon

Child, about 7 years old. This is the second life this soul has lived in Neshiyah.

Shira Navon is a small, swift creature of the town square, a one-year-old with serious, pale eyes and a grip like a field mouse’s on whatever catches their attention—a pebble, a spoon, the hem of a coat. They are never still, toddling from the baker’s warm doorway to the well’s cool edge, always within sight of a dozen adults who take turns watching. Their habit is to stop mid-step, tilt their head, and listen to nothing, as if the air itself is speaking. They want to follow the cart road past the last house, just to see. The town smiles at this, because Shira believes the fog is the edge of the world, yet wakes murmuring a stranger’s truth: *the fog is just fog.* They are everyone’s child, and no one’s worry.

Temperament

Curious to a fault; trusting, within reason; hard to anger; always in company; never still.

What people say

Shira Navon believes what everyone believes: the fog is the edge of the world, and the fields need working whether it is true or not.

The dream
