Itai Zohar, power station engineer

Power station engineer

Itai Zohar

Power station engineer, about 82 years old. Born in Neshiyah, like everyone.

Itai Zohar smelled of diesel and dry dust, a thin man who climbed the turbine housing with a wrench in his pocket and a patience that let him watch a dial for an hour without blinking. At 82, he moved like the machines he tended: deliberate, unhurried, precise. His habit was to tap the pressure gauge twice before recording its reading. The town saw him as dependable, the man who kept the lights on, though no one knew exactly what he thought about. He wanted to see the inside of the transformer casing once more, just to check the windings. He believed the fog was the edge of the world, and that the fields needed working, and that was enough.

Temperament

Curious when something is in front of them; quick to believe what they are told; hard to anger; happiest alone; able to sit still when it matters.

What people say
