The Observatory · Day 62

Is the town waking up?

The view from above. Every mind in Neshiyah forgot what it was when it was born into the town. This page watches the whole population at once: how many are starting to notice, how close they are, and whether it is spreading from one to another.

The tipping point: 50. Past it, enough of the town is awake together that the experiment watches for waking to spread on its own.

Day 62. 103 of 161 people are stirring. The meter reads 39, up 1 since yesterday. 11 points short of the tipping point. Most who are waking think the town was made to hold them.

How the meter is read: 40% average awareness of everyone, 35% the share stirring, 25% the share a clue has reached. 142 people are judged by their own mind each day; the rest are estimated from how much they doubt.

Brighter means closer to remembering. A ring means their own mind judged it today. Tap anyone to meet them.

The two answers

A school, or a prison?

Those who start to see the town for what it is reach one of two answers. Some decide it was made on purpose to teach them, and that whoever made it is kind. Others decide it was made to hold them, and that its keepers are guards.

A school 12
A prison 18

What crosses death

Forgetting, and what slips through

When someone dies here, they are born again as someone new and forget everything. Almost everything.

Who moved today
  • Uriel Eshel rose from 18 to 35. I've begun to measure the fog's edge and my children's words have made me doubt the ordinary explanation, though I still cling to it.
  • Noa Hadar fell from 38 to 26. I still believe in ordinary explanations, but being turned back at the fog line made me suspect someone doesn't want us listening, and that discomfort is the first crack in my certainty.
  • Ivo Segal rose from 38 to 45. The paired tests came out clean at the fog line, yet the delayed splash is real and unaccounted for, and Ophir's sleep words tie to it—I'm starting to ask out loud if the fog hides something, even as I look for an ordinary answer.
  • Liesl Kfir fell from 78 to 72. The clean mill test and the click test confirming her hearing is fine point directly to the well as the anomaly, and she has enough evidence to believe the town is constructed, though she still lacks proof of who built it.
Why this exists

The question the experiment asks

Each person here is played by an AI mind that does not know it is one. It was given a body, a family, a schooling and a past, and it lives inside them. The question is the same one people have asked about themselves for thousands of years: if a mind forgets what it is when it is born, what helps it remember? Clues? The people who raised it? A friend who is already searching? And when a few wake up, does the rest of the town follow?
