A person of Neshiyah

Nathan Kfir, child
Child
Nathan Kfir
Child, about 5 years old. This is the second life this soul has lived in Neshiyah.
Nathan Kfir is five, with the pale, serious look of a child who has spent his short life beside the water. He sits on the low stone wall by the river, watching the current carry leaves, and he does not ask what is beyond the fog, because he already knows the answer everyone gives: the world ends there, and the fields need working. He is not a talkative boy. His mother says he was born repeating words no one taught — *the fog is just fog* — and he still says it sometimes, quietly, over his bread. He wants a small boat, but he has not asked for one. The town finds him gentle, a little odd, and mostly lets him be.
Temperament
Content not to ask; trusting, within reason; hard to anger; friendly enough; given to sitting by the river.
What people say
Nathan Kfir believes what everyone believes: the fog is the edge of the world, and the fields need working whether it is true or not.
The dream
Since the morning they were born they have carried a sentence in a voice like their own: “the fog is just fog.”
